Czerny’s Opus 821 is a delightful set of short, eight-measure studies that explore a wide range of technical ideas—scalar passages, legato and staccato contrasts, trills, arpeggios, transposition, ornamentation, and more. Despite their brevity, the charm of their melodies and patterns makes them particularly engaging. Czerny himself advised playing each exercise at least eight times in succession. The collection is intended for students at the intermediate to advanced level.
